UB Wrestling Drops Close MeetBUFFALO, NY- The UB wrestling team lost their last home meet of the season, falling to Slippery Rock University 23-17 Tuesday night at Alumni Arena.
The Bulls (7-4, 3-1) fell behind early, losing the first five matches, and trailed 17-0 to the SRU, but fought back to make it close in the end. Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) started the come back with a 15-0 technical fall win at 174-pounds. He was followed by Matt Ricci (E. Rochester, NY/E. Rochester) who dominated his opponent, pinning Travis Friedman at the 2:47 mark. Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) then won by forfiet at 197 pounds to tie the meet at 17-17. Slippery Rock held on to win the final two matches in some close decisions for the 23-17 win.
The lose breaks the Bulls seven match winning streak and drops UB to 7-4 overall. The Bulls are still 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference and are currently in second place in the MAC. The Bulls will be in action again this Sunday when they travel to MAC leading Central Michigan in a big matchup. |
