Wrestling Team Wins Fourth Meet in Two DaysBUFFALO, NY- The UB wrestling team completed a long and exhausting weekend with two more wins, defeating Miami 28-6 and Eastern Illinois 20-19. The Bulls completed a tough weekend schedule that saw them wrestle four meets in two days. After defeating Kent and Syracuse on Saturday, UB traveld for these two meets in Oxford, OH, on Sunday, but came through with their fourth straight win.
The Bulls won eight of the ten weight classes in the win over Miami, including the 125-pound weight class, where senior tri-captain Brian Schaal (Attica, NY/Alexander) with a win by fall at the 1:25 mark. Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) was a major decision winner for the Bulls at 133 pounds in the win as well.
In the second meet of the day, the Bulls narrowly defeated Eastern Illinois 20-19, thanks to a couple wins by pin. Jacob Partlow (Quaker City, OH/Shenandoah) and Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) both won by fall, Partlow at 157 pounds and Cooper at 165 pounds. In addition, senior tri-captains Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) and Matt Ricci (E. Rochester, NY/E. Rochester) each won by major decisions to carry UB to the win.
After starting out 0-3, the Bulls improved to 4-3 on the season after the long weekend of tough meets. The win over Miami also improved UB to 2-1 in MAC competition. |
