UB Wrestler Place Third At New York State Championships

BINGHAMTON, NY- The UB wrestling team finished third in the New York State Collegiate Championships held at Binghamton, NY. The meet featured 21 teams from the state of New York.

Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) was the Bulls lone champion, finishing in first place in the 174-pound division. Schaus finished with a 4-0 record in the tournament and used a 2-0 decision over Dan Perry of Oneonta to take the championship. Schaus also recorded falls in his first three wins of the tournament.

Brian Schaal (Attica, NY/Alexander) took second place in the 125-pound division. He finished with three wins, two by falls and one by technical fall, before losing to Aaron Taylor of Cornell in the championship.

John Eschenfelder (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-Syracuse) took third place with an incredible performance in the heavyweight division. Eschenfelder lost his second match and had to come through the consulation bracket. He finished with a 5-1 record, and won all five matches by fall. Three of those five were falls in the first minute.

The Bulls finished third with a score of 122. Cornell won the championship with 188 points and Hofstra who finished in second with 147.5. Columbia finished behind UB in fourth place with 99.5 points.
