UB Wrestling Wins Final Dual Meet of Season

PITTSBURGH, PA - The UB wrestling team pulled out a victory in thier final dual meet of the season with a 28-15 win at Duquesne. The Bulls will look to carry that momentum into the Mid-American Conference Championships which start on March 5 at Northern Illinois University.

UB got early wins from John Eschenfelder (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero) at heavyweight and Brian Schaal (Attica, NY/Alexander), who recorded a pin at 125 pounds. Despite those two wins, the Bulls trailed 15-12 before winning the last four weight classes to secure the win.

The four straight wins to end the meet started with Jake Partlow (Quaker City, OH/Shenandoah) at 157 pounds with an 8-6 decision. Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) returned to action after a mid-season injury to record a 6-5 win at 165 pounds and Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) continued his impressive season with a 10-2 win, improving to 31-9 on the year. Matt Ricci (E. Rochester, NY/E. Rochester) then finished things off with a win by fall for the 28-15 victory.

The Bulls finished thier dual meet season with an 8-6 record and 3-2 in MAC competition. The Bulls will now look forward to thier first MAC Championship appearance on March 5-6 at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.
