UB Wrestling Falls to Cornell

SPENCERPORT, NY- The UB wrestling team lost to Cornell University, 28-6, Thursday evening in a meet that was wrestled at Spencerport High School. Cornell, team champion at the New York State Collegiate Championships earlier this year, won eight of the ten weight classes while improving to 15-2-1 on the year.

The Bulls (7-6-0) got two victories from a couple of the team captains. Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) wona 2-1 overtime decision at the 174-pound weight class. The win improved Schaus to 30-9 on the season as he became just the 13th wrestler in UB history to record a 30-win season, and the eighth under current head coach Jim Beichner. Matt Ricci (E. Rochester, NY/E. Rochester) was the only other Bulls winner, taking a 9-6 decision at 184 pounds. Ricci improved to 21-10 on the season.

UB will conclude their dual meet season this Sunday when the team travels to face Duquesne University on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 pm . The Bulls will then have a week off to prepare for the Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be held on March 5-6 at Northern Illinois University.
