Bulls Defeat Lehigh at Michigan Duals

Buffalo (2-2-1) earned their dual meet win over Lehigh by winning the final four matches of the dual. The Bulls jumped out to an early 9-0 lead as Dylan Dabolt (Attica, NY/Attica), Joe Wilson (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) and Andrew Stella (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) won the first three matches of the dual. But Lehigh answered by winning the next three decisions, tying the overall score at 9-9 with four matches remaining. UB regained the lead when Mike Ragusa earned a 2-1 overtime victory at 174 pounds over Alex Caruso. Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) followed with a major decision win, 15-6, at 184 pounds over Kadeem Samuels. Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick) and Parker each earned decision wins in the final two matches of the dual, to give UB the 22-9 win.

In their first dual of the day, the Bulls fell to #7 Michigan, 35-6. The Wolverines posed an immense challenge, as seven of their ten starters are ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes, including two top-ranked wrestlers, Kellen Russell at 141 pounds and Eric Tannenbaum at 165. Parker picked up the only win of the dual for UB via an injury default over Matt Guhn at 4:11 in the heavyweight match.

The final match of the day for UB also served as their first Mid-American Conference dual of the season, as the Bulls fell to Eastern Michigan, 21-12. Buffalo was in a hole early, as Stella picked up the only victory for the Bulls in the first six matches of the dual, a 9-7 decision over Zach Donofrio. UB won three of the final four matches against the Eagles, as Ragusa and Hamel won their second matches of the day and Parker completed a perfect 3-0 day, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the fast start by Eastern Michigan.

Buffalo will be back on the mats on Wednesday, January 2 when they travel to Clarion to compete in duals with Clarion and Delaware State. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
