NEWARK, DE - Sophomore Mark McKnight (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) led the University at Buffalo contingent as his second-place finish highlighted Buffalo's day, which featured six Bulls earning places at the Beast of the East Collegiate Invitational at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center on Friday.

McKnight (125 pounds) breezed through his first two matches before escaping with a 3-1 win over The Citadel's Ryan McCleister in the semifinals. McKnight lost in the finals to Northwestern's John Velez, ranked 14th by WrestlingMall.com and 15th by Intermat, 4-3. It was McKnight's seventh loss of the year to a top-20 opponent. McKnight is now 14-7 on the season.

Budd, seeded fifth in the tournament pool, beat fourth-seeded Jarred Mercado of Northwestern, 5-1, in the quarterfinals, but lost to North Carolina's Evan Sola, ranked 10th by Intermat, in the semifinals. Budd rebounded with two wins, taking down second-seeded Tim Harner of Rider, 9-4, to earn third-place. Budd evened his record at 9-9 on the year with the four-win, one-loss performance.

Rendos took a more unconventional route to third-place, losing in the quarterfinals as The Citadel's Travis Piccard pinned the freshmen at the 4:48 mark. Rendos responded by reeling off four consolation-bracket wins, beating Bloomsburg's Chris Tate, 2-0, in the third-place match. In a dual meet on Nov. 18, Tate beat Rendos, 4-3. Rendos improved to 13-10 on the season with the 5-1 performance.

Sherrell, who has rebounded from a 1-3 start to now stand at 10-7 on the year, lost in the semifinals to the top seed, Northwestern's Matt Delguyd, 12-1, but rebounded with two wins, including beating third-ranked Jake Butler of Princeton, 6-3, in the third-place match.

Junior Garrett Hicks (Chautauqua, NY/Chautauqua Lake) (184 pounds) lost his opening match to tournament champion Mike Tamillow of Northwestern, 14-4, but rebounded with four straight wins to make the third-place match. He lost to The Citadel's Keith Clifton, 10-5. Hicks stands at 9-10 after his 4-2 performance Friday.

Sophomore Pat Lloyd (Middletown, NY/Valley Central) also advanced to the semifinals before losing to North Carolina's Chris Ramos, 3-1. Lloyd also lost in the consolation semifinals to East Stroudsburg's Mark Smith, but rebounded in the fifth-place bout, beating Sacred Heart's Tony Hayes, 2-0. Lloyd is 9-9 on the season after going 3-2 at the Beast of the East.
