ALBANY, NY - For the first time in over 25 years, the University at Buffalo's wrestling team has opened its season with eight consecutive victories. By sweeping the Northeast Duals on Sunday, Buffalo moved to 8-0 - a position it has not been in since the 1974-75 season.

UB began the afternoon by trouncing James Madison, 41-3, before defeating beating East Stroudsburg by a 33-9 score. Then, in what worked out to be the Northeast Duals Championship Match, Buffalo cruised to a 25-10 victory over Sacred Heart.

Four UB wrestlers went a perfect 3-0 on the afternoon - Mark McKnight (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) at 125 pounds, Mike Trotta (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) at 141 pounds, Ed Pawlak (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) at 174 pounds and Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) at 197 pounds.

Bulls that picked up two wins included Cliff Smith (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) at 133 pounds, Patrick Lloyd (Middletown, NY/Valley Central) at 149 pounds, Casey Burchfield (Holley, NY/Kendall) at 157 pounds, Nick Rausenberger (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) at 174 pounds and Garrett Hicks (Chautauqua, NY/Chautauqua Lake) at 184 pounds.

"I am real proud that our guys have been able to overcome what adversity - as far as injuries and other issues - they have faced," said Bulls' head coach Jim Beichner. "To have the start we have had really means a lot."

Buffalo returns to action this Friday at the Beast of the East Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Delaware. UB does not put its perfect dual meet record on the line again until the Buckeye Duals at Ohio State on January 3rd.
