Bulls Sweep at Bloomsburg DualsUB
defeats Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg and Sacred Heart
BUFFALO, NY - After a couple weeks off from competition, the University at Buffalo wrestling team was back in action today as they competed in the Bloomsburg Duals where they faced Bloomsburg University, East Stroudsburg University and Sacred Heart University. The Bulls were victorious in each of their matches defeating East Stroudsburg 31-12, followed by their win over Sacred Heart 38-6 and a close fought victory over Bloomsburg University 18-16.
Next up, the Bulls would face Sacred Heart University. The Bulls jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with a forfeit at the 125-pound weight class and a win credited to Dan Bishop. In a rematch from this year's Body Bar Invitational in Ithaca, NY, Smith faced SHU's Cory Dunn. Once again, Smith was victorious over Dunn with a decision of 5-1. At 174, Nate Rock won by technical fall over SHU's Brandon Lapp by the score of 16-0 at 6:15 in the match, thus leading the Bulls to a 23-6 lead. At 184, Moran claimed another victory on the day, this time as a forfeit. To end the Bulls' bout with SHU, Brett Correll would face Bill Beriermester at the 285-pound weight class. With Correll's win by fall at 2:33, he picked up his fifth overall win by fall of the season, his second win by fall in duals and the Bulls' 38-6 victory over the Pioneers.
To end the day's competition, the Bulls would face host Bloomsburg University. The Huskies and Bulls traded victories in the first four weight classes with each team recording two wins and two losses. In an 11-point swing in favor of Bloomsburg, the Bulls would drop the next two matches at 157 and 165 by technical and by fall, respectively. In a swing of their own favor, the Bulls would answer back with three consecutive decisions at 174 by Rock, at 184 by Moran and at 197 by Jimmy Hamel. With one remaining weight class and the score 16-15 in favor of the Huskies, the Bulls' would place their hopes on the shoulders of their 285-pounder Correll. Correll would pull out a 6-1 decision over Bloomsburg's Ryan Sutton and a Bulls' 18-16 victory. The Bulls next action will be at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, NV on Thursday, December 18.
