Bulls Finish 27th At Las Vegas TournamentThe Bulls took part in their second invitational of the season as they traveled to the prestigious Las Vegas Tournament (12/3-4). Buffalo finished 27th along with two other squads (Brown, Central Oklahoma) with 20 points. Oklahoma State, currently ranked fourth in InterMat's NCAA Division I rankings, won the event with 164 points. Forty-seven schools took part in the tournament. UB placed 17th with 34.5 points at the Las Vegas Tournament last year. Junior Shawn Kegel (Wantaugh, NY/MacArthur) went 2-2 at the Tournament at 133 pounds. In first-round action, he faced a two-time Division II All-American from South Dakota State and won 5-3 in an ovetime thriller. Kegel was knocked out of the championship bracket (techinical fall, 16-0) by a Fresno State opponent who is ranked 10th in the nation at 133 pounds. Sophomore Gary Cooper (Adams,
NY/South Jefferson) attained a 3-2 record in the 165 pound
weight class. In the championship bracket he defeated
his opponents by fall (4:18) and 16-11. He was sent to
the consolations after losing to the tournament's
seventh-seeded wrestler at 165 pounds (fall, 1:47). |
