LOCK HAVEN, PA - Junior Harold Sherrell (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) finished second at 197 pounds to highlight the University at Buffalo wrestling team's day at the Mat Town USA Tournament at Lock Haven University on Saturday. Buffalo finished 11th out of 13 teams with 43.0 points.

Sherrell beat David Dashiell of North Carolina in the first round, 8-4, before beating Phil Davis of Penn State, 7-6, to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, Sherrell knocked off Matt Koz of Minnesota, 15-6. Koz was ranked 16th in the Wrestlingmall.com preseason Division I poll at 197 pounds.

Joel Weimer of Ohio beat Sherrell, 4-2, in the finals. Sherrell is now 4-4 this year and 28-36 in his career. It was the first time in his collegiate career that he had made it to a tournament finals.

Sophomores Mark McKnight (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) (125 pounds) and Pat Lloyd (Middletown, NY/Valley Central) (149 pounds) took fifth to round out UB's placers at the tournament.

McKnight, ranked seventh in the Amateur Wrestling News Nov. 24 poll, won his first two matches, beating Drew Forshey of North Carolina, 7-3, and Ohio's Caleb Metcalf, 6-1. The win over Metcalf made McKnight helped McKnight establish a record for Buffalo non-transfers, as McKnight's 40 career wins in 49 matches shattered the previous mark set by senior redshirt Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter), who started his career 40-18.

McKnight dropped his next two matches, losing to Minnesota's Bobbe Lowe, 7-4, and Penn State's Adam Smith, 7-4, to reach the fifth-place match, where McKnight beat Andrew Dominques, 8-3. Smith was ranked 11th in the Amateur Wrestling News poll and Lowe was ranked ninth.

Lloyd opened his tournament with wins over Minnesota's Juan Martinez, 4-3, and Clarion's T.J. McCance, 2-0, to reach the semifinals. Penn State's James Woodall, ranked 11th in the Amateur Wrestling News, beat Lloyd, 13-7, to drop Lloyd to the consolation bracket.

In the consolation semifinals, Lloyd lost 6-4 in overtime to Lock Haven's Josh Medina before beating McCance, 4-3, to take fifth-place.

UB's next stop on a month-long road trip is at Las Vegas on Friday for the two-day Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, traditionally one of the best wrestling tournaments in the country.
