Bulls Finish Sixth At Body Bar Invitational

Six Bulls place at the Cornell tournament

ITHACA, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team took home a sixth-place finish from the Body Bar Invitational at Cornell University on Saturday afternoon. Senior Dana Gingerich (Spring Grove, PA/Deleon Catholic) had the best finish among UB wrestlers, taking home second place at 149 pounds. Five other Bulls placed in the tournament.

Gingerich advanced to the championship match at 149 where he lost to Eric Medina of Maryland by an 8-2 decision. Gingerich earned his way to the title match by winning his first three matches of the day, including an impressive 19-7 decision over Kyle Bub of Drexel in the semifinals.

Scott Rendos (Brockway, PA/Brockway) and Mike Ragusa (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) earned third place finishes for the Bulls. Rendos lost his first match of the day at 165 pounds to Mike McGill of Maryland, but battled back with four-straight victories to take third. In the third-place match, Rendos avenged his only loss of the day by defeating McGill by a 15-3 decision. Ragusa earned third-place in the 174 pounds weight class by defeating Colin McDonald of Cornell by a 4-2 decision. The only loss for Ragusa was to Steve Ancerovage of Cornell, the tournament’s top seed and winner at 174 pounds, in the semifinals.

Junior co-captain Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) placed for the third-straight tournament. Moran took home fourth place at the Body Bar after falling in the third-place match to Trevor Bradvold of Wisconsin by a 2-0 decision. Overall, Moran won three matches during the tournament.

Fifth-place finishes were earned by Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick) and Andrew Stella (Tonwanda, NY/Sweet Home). Hamel took fifth in the 197 pound weight class after defeating Matt Panasevich of Cornell in his final match by an 11-5 decision. Stella won five matches on the day, including a 3-2 decision over Jon Kohler of Maryland to take home fifth.

Buffalo will continue their season next Saturday, November 24, when they travel to Lock Haven, PA to take part in the Mat Town Tournament.
