BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo wrestling coach Jim Beichner has announced that four wrestlers have signed National Letters of Intent to join the UB wrestling program beginning in 2008-09. John Martin Cannon (Brockport, NY/Brockport), Christopher Conti (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Mark Lewandowski (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Ron Majerus (Mexico, NY/Mexico) will each join the Bulls next season.

"I think, as a whole, this class is outstanding. We think that this group is the right 'mold' for us. They are great student-athletes, and I emphasize students because each one is very accomplished as a student." Beichner said. "They are all blue-collar kids that have a tremendous work ethic and very good upside. They are good citizens, good wrestlers, good students and come from good families. Each of them is the embodiment of the kind of young man we are looking for, so we are very excited and happy to have the four of them."

Last year, all four wrestlers were placewinners at the New York State High School Championships. Cannon, projected to wrestle at 157 pounds for UB, took third last year at the state meet at 145 pounds. Conti placed fifth last season at 112 pounds and is expected to be a 125 pound wrestler at the collegiate level. Lewandowski was a state runner-up last season at 125 pounds, he is projected to wrestle at either 133 or 141 pounds for the Bulls. Majerus, a former high school teammate of current Buffalo freshman Kevin Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico), was also a state runner-up last year, at 145 pounds. Majerus will likely take to the mats at 157 or 165 pounds for UB.

Beichner and the 2007-08 Bulls continue their season this Saturday, November 17 in the Body Bar Invitational at Cornell.
