BUFFALO, NY - Ricky Scott (Middletown, NY/Valley Central), a New York State High School Division I Champion, has signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at the University at Buffalo, head coach Jim Beichner announced Friday,

Scott, who is currently ranked 35th in Intermat's Top 200 Recruits of 2004-05 and second at 171 pounds, has put up some astounding numbers during his high school career. Before winning the New York State Division I High School Championships at Alumni Arena last spring, Scott had already piled up more than 100 wins.

"We're getting someone who is nationally-recognized," Beichner said of Scott, who projects to wrestle at 184 pounds at UB. "He's a New York resident and it's nice to keep New Yorkers in-state and wrestling on our team. More than anything, he adds depth and talent to the upper weights."

Scott has won three Section 9 titles and will join Valley Central teammate and fellow state champion Pat Lloyd (Middletown, NY/Valley Central) with the Bulls. In four seasons as a varsity wrestler at Valley Central, Scott has compiled a 153-29 record and is within reach of Campbell's Darrell Ford's Section 9 mark of 183 career wins.

UB's 2004-05 wrestling season opens Saturday at the Oklahoma Gold Classic in Brockport, NY at 10:00 am.
