Buffalo Takes Second Place at Oklahoma Gold ClassicBUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team recorded their best finish ever at the Oklahoma Gold Classic, taking second place at the nine-team event. The Bulls 105 points was second-best only to 19th-ranked Oklahoma.
Following victories last week at the UB Open, Mike Ragusa (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) and Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) both came back with placement finishes this weekend. Ragusa won three matches for the day, narrowly losing a decision in the third place match 3-2 to Chris DeVilbiss of Oklahoma. Meanwule, Moran won four matches, including a 6-4 decision in his third place bout with Scott Ferguson of Army. For Moran, his only defeat on the day came to Josh Weitzel of Oklahoma, the nation's 15th-ranked 184 pound wrestler.
Andrew Stella (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) took home fourth place at 141 pounds. After falling in the second round to Zach Bailey of Oklahoma, Stella fought his way back through the wrestlebacks, winning four matches en route to a matchup with Kyle Terry of Oklahoma. Terry, the 17th-ranked wrestler in the nation at 141 pounds, won the decision 7-4, but Stella's effort was still good enough to take fourth. In the 197 pound weight class, Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick) also earned a fourth place finish. Hamel won two matches but fell in his third place bout to Michael Blackwell of Kent State.
