Bentley and Grillo Named To MAC Academic Honor RollBUFFALO, NY - The Mid-American Conference has announced that University at Buffalo wrestlers Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) and Adam Grillo (Albion, NY/Holley) have been named to the 2001 MAC Wrestling Academic Honor Roll. Bentley, a junior Accounting major, posted a team-best 30-7 record at the 141-pound weight class. Eleven of those 30 victories were by fall, a mark that also led the team as he recorded his second consecutive 20-win season for the Bulls. His 65 career wins (against 30 losses) is good enough to place him in a tie for 15th in the UB wrestling record books and he sits just 17 victories shy of the top five. The Ripley native took first at the Bloomsburg Invitational, the Wilkes Open, and the New York State Collegiate Championships. Grillo grappled his way to a career-high 7-10 season and a third place finish at the Bloomsburg Invitational. The sophomore Math major split time at the 125-pound weight class, collecting 14 escapes and three reversals for the Bulls. The Bulls finished the 2000-01 season with an 11-6 overall dual meet record while going 3-2 in MAC competition and placing fourth at the MAC Championships. Four wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Championships, the most ever in one year, and they guided the Bulls to a 48th place finish. To qualify for the MAC Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and earn a letter for the current season. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible as student-athletes must have attended that institution for an entire year. |
