UB Releases 2005-06 ScheduleBUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo wrestling program and head coach Jim Beichner made their 2005-06 schedule available Thursday. The Bulls have six dual meets scheduled for Alumni Arena – three versus Mid-American Conference opponents – along with the third annual UB Open. “We’re looking forward to the chance to showcase our up-and-coming wrestlers at home a lot this year,” Beichner said. “It’s nice to have such a heavy dose of meets here at Alumni Arena.” The Oklahoma Gold Classic, held in Brockport on November 12, once again kicks off the Bulls’ season. UB opens its dual meet and home portion of the schedule November 20, facing Gardner-Webb, Findlay and Bloomsburg – who recently named former UB standout John Stutzman its head coach. The Mat Town USA Invitational (November 26) and Las Vegas Invitational (December 2-3) are once again included on the Bulls’ slate. “The Mat Town tournament is always one of the top competitions in the country,” said Beichner. “Las Vegas is probably one of the toughest national tournaments at the collegiate level. It is as close to the NCAA Championships as it gets, and that’s why we go there, because we want that high-level national competition.” UNC-Greensboro head coach Tom Shifflet will be making a return visit to Western New York on January 15 when his Spartans stop by Alumni Arena. The Amherst native and Sweet Home High School graduate is entering his fourth season at the helm of the UNC-Greensboro program. The remaining dual-meet opponents coming to UB include Appalachian State and Mercyhurst (December 19); Ohio University, Ithaca and Delaware State (January 28); Eastern Michigan (February 4); and Central Michigan (February 5). The Bulls’ other MAC matchups take place at Northern Illinois (January 6) – UB’s conference opener – and at Kent State (February 10). “We finish the meat of our MAC schedule in the early part of February,” said Beichner. “That’s when you want it, because your team and starters are set. That’s the time when you want to hit your conference competition.” The MAC Championships are scheduled for March 4-5 at Northern Illinois, while this season’s NCAA Championships will take place March 16-18 in Oklahoma City. “Once again we worked very hard to make sure this was a competitive schedule,” Beichner said. “Over the years, we’ve made our schedule tougher and tougher. This year is no exception. We want to make sure our guys have the competition they need so they can prepare themselves for the MAC and NCAA Championships.”
