Wrestling Announces 2007-08 Award Winners
Hamel, Moran, Parker and Wilson each earn honors

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo head wrestling coach Jim Beichner has announced the recipients of the 2007-08 wrestling team awards. Receiving honors from the Buffalo coaching staff were redshirt freshman
Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick), junior
Joe Wilson (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), senior
Jeff Parker (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) and junior
Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area).

Hamel earned Buffalo's Top Newcomer award after amassing 30 victories in his redshirt freshman campaign. Hamel began the season in excellent fashion, placing in each of UB's first four tournaments, including his first collegiate tournament win at the Mat Town Invitational. Hamel continued his impressive tournament record later in the season when he took second at the New York State Intercollegiate Championships. The 197-pounder also had success in dual meets, compiling a 13-4 dual meet record, including 4-1 in Mid-American Conference matches. He recorded 41 takedowns during the 2007-08 campaign, tied for the ninth-best single-season total in school history. Hamel ended the season with a third place finish at the MAC Championships.

Wilson won 18 matches during the 2007-08 season, an 11 win improvement from the previous year, and earned UB's Most Improved award. Wilson placed in a pair of tournaments for the Bulls, earning fourth place at both the Mat Town Invitational and the New York State Intercollegiate Championship. The two fourth place finishes were Wilson's highest career tournament placings. Wilson also started all 17 dual matches for the Bulls at 133 pounds.
Parker, a senior co-captain, was recognized with the Buffalo Coaches' Award. Parker won 26 matches during his senior season, giving him 73 victories in his career at UB. Parker placed at the UB Open, Mat Town Invitational and New York State Intercollegiate Championships in his final campaign for the Bulls. Parker started all 17 dual meets at heavyweight for Buffalo, earning 11 victories, including an 11-3 decision on senior day which broke a tie in the dual and gave UB the victory. Parker finished his collegiate career with a third place finish at the MAC Championships.

Moran earned the Special Recognition Award following a 32-win season and a fourth place finish at the USA Wrestling University National Championships. Moran won three tournament titles at 184 pounds, taking home top honors at the UB Open, Mat Town Invitational and New York State Intercollegiate Championships. A team co-captain, Moran won 12 matches during dual meets for the Bulls, including a 3-1 decision over nationally-ranked Chris Honeycutt of Edinboro.
Buffalo finished the season with a record of 9-7-1.
