KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo wrestling team finished in a tie for fourth place at the Mid-American Conference Championships at Kent State. The Bulls scored 26.5 points, tied with Ohio. Pat Lloyd (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) had the best individual performance for UB, finishing second at 157 pounds. Central Michigan won the championship with 110 points.

Lloyd won a pair of matches on the second day of the championship to earn his second place finish. In his first match, the Buffalo senior defeated Sli Bostleman of Kent State by a 6-3 decision. Lloyd then secured second place with a victory over Bryan O'Connor of Northern Illinois by a 2-0 decision. Lloyd's victory in the true second place bout helped the Bulls overtake Eastern Michigan in the overall meet standings.

Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick) and Jeff Parker (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) each took home third place finishes for UB. Hamel knocked off Chris Iammarino of Ohio in overtime by a 4-3 score, it was the third overtime match for Hamel in his four matches in the 197 pound weight class. Parker upended Eastern Michigan's David Wade by a 5-1 decision in his heavyweight consolation bout. Neither Hamel or Parker wrestled a true second place bout due to previous results in the tournament.

John Cummings (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) and Mickey Moran (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler Area) each advanced to day two of the championship, but both fell in their first match of day two.
