UB Wrestling Ends Regular Season with Two LossesITHACA, NY The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped a pair of matches at the Cornell Duals on Saturday. Buffalo lost to Missouri - ranked ninth in the nation in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Poll - by a 36-4 score. UB also went down in defeat by a 29-12 score to Mid-American Conference rival, Ohio. Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) was the Bulls lone winner in the meet versus Missouri. Cooper won by major decision, giving Buffalo four team points. Against Ohio, Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) opened the meet with a 4-2 decision over the Bobcats' Mike Caruso. Voorhees, who wrestles at 125 pounds, earned his points with a takedown, an escape and a riding time point. Buffalo's next win came at the 157-pound weight class. Dave Edwards (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) scored a 7-6 decision over Alex Cooper of Ohio. Edwards notched his seven points with a takedown, a two-point near fall, a reversal and an escape. Garrett Bontempo (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area) decisioned Ohio's Travis Smith, 9-3, at 184 pounds. Bontempo had four takedowns and one escape.
With a win at the 197-pound weight class, Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) completed a perfect 5-0 season in the MAC. Cerminara used a takedown and an escape to earn a 3-1 decision over the Bobcats' Joel Weimer. The Bulls now head to the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on March
9th and 10th. Eighteen MAC wrestlers will then advance to the NCAA Championships in Albany that
run from March 21st through March
