Wrestlers of the Week

Senior Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and junior Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) both tallied victories in the Bulls' lone dual meet this week.

Against Ohio, States recorded a 14-9 decision over Mark Shrout, to bring his season record to 25-3, and 5-0 in Mid-American Conference matches.

Jacoutot recorded a 10-3 decision over Andrew Reichenbach. Jacoutot's 22 wins this season, mark the first time that he has had a 20-win season.

Bulls Beat By Bobcats

The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped its final Mid-American Conference match this season, falling to Ohio University, 23-9. This was UB's second straight MAC loss, following a Feb. 10, defeat to Central Michigan, 19-12.

The Bulls began the contest with a victory at 133 pounds. Senior, Shawn Kegel (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) notched a 12-8 decision over Anthony Carrizales. Kegel is now 26-4 this season and finishes at 3-2 in MAC competition.

After an Ohio victory at 141 pounds, UB tallied a win at 149 pounds. Jacoutot recorded a 10-3 decision over Andrew Reichenbach. Jacoutot is now 22-10 this season and finishes with a 2-1 MAC record.

The Bobcats rattled off three consecutive wins, opening up a 13-6 lead, which they would never relinquish.

States tallied the last UB victory with a 14-9 decision at 184 pounds over Mark Shrout. States recorded his 17th win in a row and is now 25-3 overall and is a perfect 5-0 in MAC competition.

Bulls Fall to CMU Chippewas, 19-12

The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped a dual match to Central Michigan, 19-12 on Feb. 10 at CMU.

The Chippewas rattled off three wins in a row to start the match before Labe Black (Ventnor, NJ/Absegami) picked up the first UB victory. Black (15-10) shut out Derek Phillips, 6-0, for the win at 157 pounds.

Senior Dave Guarino (Derby, NY/Lakeshore) added UB's second win with a 6-3 decision over Mitch Hancock. Guarino's season record is 18-13.

States picked up the next UB victory when he tallied

his 16th win in a row, decisioning Jeff Pangborn, 3-1 at 184 pounds.

Senior John Eschenfelder (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) recorded the last UB victory. Eschenfelder (16-3) defeated Jack Leffler, 7-2 at heavyweight.

Bulls Record 43-3

Victory over Slippery Rock

The University at Buffalo wrestling team picked up its third win in a row Tues. Feb 6, defeating Slippery Rock University, 43-3.

Kegel started the match off with a technical fall (16-1; 6:54) over Greg McCarty.

Black and senior Ben Cooper (Copenhagen, NY/Copenhagen) both picked up wins by major decision. Black won 13-4 over Anthony Errera while Cooper (6-10) won 11-3 over Adam Shawver.

Seniors Eschenfelder and Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) (11-9) and junior Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) (28-5) all picked up wins by forfeit.

Senior Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and junior Taylor Lehmann (Brighton, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) both added victories. Jacoutot (22-10) decisioned Erick Eyth, 9-8 for the victory. Lehmann (1-4) decisioned Matt Hildreth, 7-3 for his first victory of the season.

In the Future

The Bulls' season record is 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls wrap up the regular season at home on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Arena. UB then has an 11-day layover before the MAC Championships take place. The Ohio Bobcats will host the championships this season on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4.
