Bulls Beat At Home By Ohio Bobcats, 23-9

Jacoutot, Kegel, and States Record Victories In Defeat

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped its final Mid-American Conference match this season, falling to Ohio University, 23-9. This was UB's second straight MAC loss, following a Feb. 10, defeat to Central Michigan, 19-12.

"We wrestled poorly today," said Head Coach Jim Beichner. "As a coaching staff we are very disappointed with today's performance because of the amount of respect that we have for the team. They are a good group of guys that work hard consistently. We thought that we were better prepared than the performance showed."

The Bulls began the contest with a victory at 133 pounds. Senior, Shawn Kegel (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) notched a 12-8 decision over Anthony Carrizales. Kegel is now 26-4 this season and finishes at 3-2 in MAC competition.

After an Ohio victory at 141 pounds, UB tallied a win at 149 pounds. Junior, Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) recorded a 10-3 decision over Andrew Reichenbach. Jacoutot is now 22-10 this season and finishes with a 2-1 MAC record.

The Bobcats rattled off three consecutive wins, opening up a 13-6 lead, which they would never relinquish.

Senior, Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) tallied the last UB victory with a 14-9 decision at 184 pounds over Mark Shrout. States recorded his 17th win in a row and is now 25-3 overall and is a perfect 5-0 in MAC competition.

The Bulls season record is 10-6 overall and 3-2 in Mid-American Conference matches. UB's final regular season match is on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Arena. The Ohio Bobcats will host the MAC Championships this season on Saturday March 3, and Sunday March 4.
