Wrestling Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF version of the release Bulls Give #13 Edinboro a Fight The University at Buffalo wrestling team fought hard against #13 Edinboro University, eventually falling to the Fighting Scots by the score of 31-10. At 149, Desi Green captured a 3-2 decision over Edinboro’s Torsten Gillespie.
Jimmy Hamel went toe-to-toe with Edinboro’s Pat Bradshaw at 197 with the score 5-5 at the end of three periods. With three seconds remaining in overtime, Hamel shot on Bradshaw taking him down to the mat for the 7-5 decision. Bulls Drop Hard Fought Match to #23 Pride, 24-13 For the second time this weekend, the University at Buffalo wrestling team fought a ranked opponent falling 24-13 to #23 Hofstra University.
John-Martin Cannon would follow Green’s victory with a victory of his own, putting a stop to his four-match losing streak. Cannon captured a 10-4 decision over Hofstra’s Fran O’Brien. For the second time this weekend, Hamel captured a 7-5 decision over his opponent at 197, this time over Hofstra’s Joe Fagiano. In his efforts, Hamel was named the US Army National Guard Gladiator of the Match. At 184, Mickey Moran captured a 3-2 decision over Hofstra’s Ben Clymer, ending Moran’s four-match losing streak.
With Green’s major decision on Sunday against #23 Hofstra, Green is now tied for fifth place in team history for most dual meet wins in a season (17) and is tied for 13th place for most overall wins in a season (33). His 12 takedowns on the day, also put him in third place for most takedowns by a Bull in a season (60). Next Up: Northern Illinois The Bulls will return to MAC competition as they face Northern Illinois on Saturday, February 21 at 1 pm. The Bulls currently hold an all-time record of 2-7 against the Huskies. The last time the Bulls captured a victory over the Huskies was during the 2000-2001 season. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Huskies claimed a 25-12 victory over the Bulls. In last year’s match, Moran walked away with a 9-5 decision over Brad Dieckhaus, a likely rematch in this year’s dual. In contrast to the Bulls’ four previous matches, the Huskies have no wrestlers ranked in the InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings. In the latest MAC Individual Rankings, the Huskies have wrestlers ranked at 125 (#4), 133 (#4), 141 (#3), 149 (#3) and 165 (#4).
