UB Wrestlers Defeat Slippery Rock, 29-10

Seven of 10 Bulls are Victorious to Move Team Dual Meet Record to 5-7

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA The University at Buffalo wrestling team scored a 29-10 win over Slippery Rock on Tuesday night at the Morrow Field House. After falling behind 6-3 in team scoring, the Bulls took the next five matches to comfortably cruise to victory.

Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) picked up UB's first win by defeating The Rock's Erick Eyth at 141 pounds, 9-5. That evened the team score at three apiece. Bentley now has 20 wins this season.

Following a Slippery Rock victory, Dave Edwards (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) gave Buffalo the lead by major decisioning The Rock's Justin Stamm, 15-5. Edwards, who wrestles at the 157-pound weight class, has a 17-15 mark in his freshman season at Buffalo.

Another major decision went UB's way at the 165-pound weight class when Dave Guarino (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) won, 15-5, over Chris Shertzer of Slippery Rock. Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) then pinned The Rock's John Hawn only two minutes and five seconds into the 174-pound bout.

UB earned five more team points at the 184-pound weight class when Garrett Bontempo (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area) won by technical fall over John Opfar of Slippery Rock. Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) major decisioned The Rock's Corey Hart, 11-2, at 197 pounds.

Buffalo's other victory came at the 125-pound weight class, where Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) decisioned Slippery Rock's Adam Renner, 4-0.

The Rock's Chris Matarrese opened the meet with a 7-4 win over Brian Sebaaly (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) at 133 pounds. Slippery Rock was also victorious at 149 pounds, where Bradley Cieleski earned a 7-2 decision over Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport). The Rock's heavyweight, Bob McKillop, major decisioned Mike Cooper (Jacksonville, FL/University Christian), 16-5.

UB is now headed to the nation's capital for a dual meet with American University and Old Dominion this Sunday at 12 p.m.
