McKnight Named MAC Wrestler Of The Week

UB freshman receives honor for second time this season

CLEVELAND, OH - On Tuesday afternoon, University at Buffalo freshman wrestler Mark McKnight (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for his efforts from February 2nd through the 8th. It is the second time McKnight has received the honor this season - he was also recognized in late November.

Last Saturday, McKnight - who wrestles at 125 pounds - posted an impressive 8-4 victory over Central Michigan's Kyle Stoffer. At the time, Stoffer was ranked 19th nationally at 125 pounds in the Amateur Wrestling News' individual rankings. In the match, McKnight recorded two takedowns, a two-point near fall and two escapes.

McKnight has a 26-6 overall record for Buffalo this season, including an 11-2 mark in dual meets. He and the rest of the Bulls return to action this evening at Slippery Rock.

In a separate story, UB 141-pounder Mike Trotta (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) will miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury. The senior was injured in a dual meet against Central Michigan last Saturday evening.

"It's really a shame to find out that Mike will be out for the year," said UB head coach Jim Beichner. "He is one of our leaders and sets a great example for the rest of the team with his incredible work ethic."
