Buffalo Defeats Slippery Rock, 43-3

States Picks Up a Win By Fall

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team picked up its third win in a row Tuesday night, defeating Slippery Rock University, 43-3. UB won all but one weight classes.

"The team wrestled very hard," said Head Coach Jim Beichner. "Some of our guys needed to come out and wrestle well to boost their confidence. As a whole they managed to do that."

Senior Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) picked up a win by fall in 2:23 over John Opfar to bring his season record to 23-3.

Senior Shawn Kegel (Wantaugh, NY/MacArthur) (25-3) started the match off with a technical fall (16-1; 6:54) over Greg McCarty.

Freshman Labe Black (Ventnor, NJ/Absegami) and senior Ben Cooper (Copenhagen, NY/Copenhagen) both picked up wins by major decision. Black (14-9) won 13-4 over Anthony Errera while Cooper (6-8) won 11-3 over Adam Shawver.

Seniors John Eschenfelder (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) (15-2) and Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) (11-7) and junior Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) (28-3) all picked up wins by forfeit.

Senior Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and junior Taylor Lehmann (Brighton, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) both added victories. Jacoutot (21-9) decisioned Erick Eyth, 9-8 for the victory. Lehmann (1-2) decisioned Matt Hildreth, 7-3 for his first victory of the season.

The Bulls season record is 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference after recording early dual-meet wins against Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and most recently Kent State. The Bulls hit the road for a dual meet on Saturday, Feb. 10, against MAC-rival Central Michigan and then return home on Saturday, Feb. 17, against another MAC-rival, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
