MT. PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo wrestling team suffered its second defeat of the weekend at the hands of nationally sixth-ranked Central Michigan, 35-3, on Sunday afternoon. With the team having played to a 28-10 decision last night, the Bulls battled fatigue, having only capitalized on one match won by senior captain Mark Budd (Orrville, OH/Orrville).

Buffalo (7-6, 0-4 MAC) faced a season-high seven nationally-ranked Chippewas (14-4-1, 2-0 MAC), who won nine of 10 events. The Bulls are currently riding a six-match losing streak against Mid-American Conference opponents dating back to last season.

Budd, ranked 17th according to InterMat/NWCA/NWMA scored four takedowns in a 10-4 decision over CMU’s Conor Beebe, to move to 12-0 in dual meets on the season. Having earned his 100th career takedown last night against Eastern Michigan, Budd now ranks fourth in UB history with 103 career takedowns. Budd now stands with an overall record of 30-4.

Junior Mike Ragusa (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) took nationally 19th-ranked Trevor Stewart into the second period with a 0-0 tie. However, Stewart would score an escape and a takedown to score the 4-1 decision.

The Bulls next welcome nationally 24th-ranked Kent State on February 9th, where seniors Jake Blowers (Johnstown, NY/Broadalbin-Perth), Mark Budd, Ray Lamb (Vineland, NJ/Absegami), and Mike Shannon (Albany, NY/Colonie) will be honored at Senior Day in their last regular season match at Alumni Arena. The meet is scheduled for 7 p.m.
