Black and Kegel Pick Up Wins By Fall

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo wrestling team notched another victory Saturday, defeating Bucknell, 37-11 at Bucknell. UB posted wins in all but three weight classes.

"The team wrestled very well," said Head Coach Jim Beichner. "Our guys came out and wrestled hard they wrestled for pins."

Freshman Labe Black (Ventnor, NJ/Absegami) and senior Shawn Kegel (Wantaugh, NY/MacArthur) both picked up wins by fall. Black (16-9) pinned Mike Saunders in 55 seconds while Kegel (24-3) pinned Jeremy Weller in 6:35.

Seniors Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) and John Eschenfelder (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero-N. Syracuse) both tallied wins. States (22-3) defeated Brian Neuman, 7-2 and Eschenfelder (14-2) won his match by Medical Forfeit in the third period.

With a 16-2, Technical Fall over Andy Bernstien, junior Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) upped his record to 28-3, a team-high.

Seniors Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) (20-10) and Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) both picked up wins by forfeit. Voorhees (11-7) was selected as last week's Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week, after a 8-6 decision over Kent State's Brent Thompson. Thompson is the three-time defending MAC Champion and ranked first at 125-pounds in the MAC.

UB's next competition is Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Alumni Arena at 7:30 p.m. for a dual meet against Slippery Rock.
