ATHENS, OH - A 3-2 win in overtime by 20th-ranked Joel Weimer against junior Harold Sherrell (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the finale turned out the be the difference as Ohio University beat the University at Buffalo wrestling team, 20-13 in Mid-American Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

The tough battle with the Bobcats is becoming an annual tradition as the Bulls fell in 2003, 16-16, losing on a tiebreaker and narrowly lost in 2004, 17-16, as Bobcats' heavyweight Jeremiah Beltran won in overtime to seal the win.

Weimer, ranked 20th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Intermat poll, narrowly earned the win against Sherrell, who is now 17-14 on the season.

Buffalo (1-8 overall, 0-2 MAC) opened the meet by grabbing a 10-0 lead, as sophomore heavyweight Jeff Parker (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) started the meet with a 3-2 overtime win against Beltran, earning an escape in the final frame to seal the win.

Sophomore Mark McKnight (McDonald, PA/South Fayette) fed off the good start by shutting out Caleb Metcalf, 6-0. McKnight, ranked 18th in the country in the WrestlingMall.com poll at 125 pounds, improved to 22-11 this season and 56-19 in his career with the win. In 2005, McKnight is 8-2.

Sophomore Mark Budd (Orrville, OH/Orrville) continued his strong performance of late with a 13-4 major decision against Matt Smith at 133 pounds. It was Budd's fourth straight win after taking home his first New York State Championship last Saturday.

The Bobcats (9-8-1 overall, 2-1 MAC) rallied back, however, winning the next five matches, and 2004 NCAA runner-up Jake Percival (157 pounds) added a tech fall to open up a 17-10 lead.

Buffalo is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5, as it travels to Ypsilanti, MI, for a 12:00 pm match with MAC for Eastern Michigan and then travels to Mt. Pleasent, MI for a 7:00 pm match with Central Michigan for another MAC matchup.
