Weekly Release

Senior Jacob Partlow (Kennonsburg, OH/Shenandoah) had a pair of impressive victories, including a clutch overtime win over Clarion that ran the Bulls' unbeaten streak to seven.

Partlow defeated Clarion's Shane McChesney 3-1 in overtime to keep UB's hopes of winning alive in an 18-17 win over perennial Division I power Clarion. Partlow then defeated Ohio's Tom Seryak, 10-4, to remain undefeated in MAC duals (3-0) before losing to Edinboro's Ben Boozer, ranked 13th in the nation, by a 5-0 score.

Bulls Rally For Win Against Clarion

Buffalo (6-0) extended their winning streak to seven straight matches on Friday, Jan. 14th at Alumni Arena with an 18-17 come-from-behind win over Clarion.

The Bulls trailed Clarion, 12-3, after five matches before bouncing back behind a fall at 1:49 by Shawn Kegel (Wantaugh, NY/MacArthur) at 133 pounds. Then trailing, 17-12, UB got a clutch 3-1 overtime win by Jake Partlow at 157 pounds, setting up the decisive match at 165 pounds.

Sophomore Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) posted an impressive 9-5 win over Josh Weaver at 165 pounds to earn Buffalo a one point victory.

Bulls See Unbeaten Streak End On road

The Bulls suffered their first two dual meet defeats of the season on Sunday, Jan. 16th in Athens, OH.

Buffalo dropped a 23-10 decision to Mid-American Conference rival Ohio University to fall to 2-1 in conference action and also lost to No. 10-ranked Edinboro, 26-9.

Winning against Ohio was Charlie Voorhees (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) at 125 pounds, Partlow at 157 pounds and Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport) at 184 pounds. Voorhees posted a 7-6 win over Paul Hodermarsky, Partlow a 10-4 win over Tom Seryak and States and impressive 10-2 win over Mark Shrout.

Against Edinboro, Buffalo received a forfeit win at 125 while the only other winner for the Bulls was Ryan Bentley (Ripley, NY/Ripley) at 149 pounds. Bentley defeated Kevin Maier, 6-3. Heavyweight Mike Garofalo (Sharpsville, PA/Kennedy Christian) lost 2-1 to Edinboro's Josh Pearce, currently ranked 13th in the nation.

UB Has Best Start Since 1974-75 Season

The Bulls 7-0 start to the 1999-2000 campaign was the program's best since the 1974-75 season when the Bulls started off 8-0 under Coach Ed Michael and finished the year with a 14-3-1 record.

UB Heads To NYS Collegiates

The Bulls will face a tough test this weekend when they travel up the I-90 to compete in the New York State Collegiates at Binghamton University.

The Bulls will be looking to win the team title for the first time in Jim Beichner's tenure, having finished as high as second and third last year.

The favorite in the event will most likely be Hofstra University as defending champ Cornell has their top wrestlers at the national dual meet championships.

UB To See More Tough Competition

The Bulls loss to 10th-ranked Edinboro is just the beginning of national caliber competition the team will face.

UB still has Central Michigan (2/12) and Cornell (2/17) on the schedule, both ranked in Intermat's Top 25.
