Fall to #11 Minnesota and Wyoming at National Duals
Green and Hamel capture victories in each dual
CEDAR FALLS, IA
- The University at Buffalo wrestling team competed in the 2009
NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals on Saturday, falling 27-13 to #11
University of Minnesota in the first round of competition followed by a
24-10 loss and elimination in the consolation preliminary round by the
University of Wyoming.

The Bulls drew the University of Minnesota in the first round, ranked
11th in the latest
USA Today/InterMat/NWCA
Division I Team Rankings. In the first three matches of the day at 125,
133 and 141, the Bulls would face the top ten wrestlers of their
respective weight classes as ranked in the latest
USA
Today/InterMat/NWCA Division I
Individual Rankings. In each of these matches, the Bulls would lose by
major decisions. The Bulls would receive victories in four weight
classes; 149, 165, 184 and 197. The Bullsâ first victory of
the day came by an 8-2 decision from
Desi
Green. The Bulls' next victory
would come at 165, as
Ron
Majerus would pick up a major
decision by the score of 12-2. At 184 and 197,
Mickey
Moran and
Jimmy
Hamel, would win each of their
matches by decision, 5-4 and 9-4, respectively.

In the preliminary consolation round, the Bulls were set to face the
University of Wyoming with the Cowboys coming off a 38-3 defeat and
elimination by #1 Iowa in the first round. The Bulls dropped the first
two matches at 125 and 133 by major decisions followed by consecutive
victories at 141 and 149. At 141,
Mark
Lewandowski won
an 8-0 major decision. At 149, Green would capture his second win of
the day, a hard fought 8-6 decision and his team leading 25th overall
victory of the season. The Bulls dropped the next four matches as
decisions to the Cowboys. At 197, Hamel would capture his second win of
the day in the form of a 6-1 decision.
The Bulls will be back in
action as they travel to Oswego, NY to compete in the 40th Annual New
York State Intercollegiate Championships on Friday and Saturday,
January 16 and 17.
