BUFFALO, NY - Senior wrestler Gary Cooper (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) has been named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for his performances during the Holiday season.

Cooper won 12 of 13 matches, claimed the 174-pound title at the Wilkes Open and won all four matches at the Buckeye Duals last weekend, to earn the distinction. His only loss in that stretch was in the finals of the 174-pound class at the Beast of the East Tournament in Delaware.

Cooper currently has a 19-4 record on the season and a perfect 6-0 record in dual meets. He is two wins shy of becoming just the third UB wrestler to attain 100 career wins and five shy of breaking the career record for victories currently held by Josh States (1997-2001) with 102.

Cooper was also named MAC Wrestler of the Week once last season and was the MAC Co-Freshman of the Year following the 1998-99 season. Buffalo will host American University on Thursday (Jan. 9) at 7 pm and the 34th New York State Collegiate Championships on January 17-18th at Alumni Arena.
