Wrestling Splits Dual Matches at Clarion

Buffalo's (3-3-1) dominating dual meet victory over Delaware State featured four forfeits by the Hornets. Joe Wilson (Chester, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), Andrew Stella (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home), Mike Ragusa (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) and Moran each were awarded their victories via forfeit. In the matches that did take place, UB scored two victories by major decision and one by pinfall. Jimmy Hamel (Natick, MA/Natick) earned a major decision win at 197 pounds with an 18-6 victory over Shawn Nowrey and Jeff Parker scored a win by major decision, 16-3, over Zeb Davis. Rendos picked up UB's first pinfall of the dual meet season when he pinned Brandon Gardner in 2:06. Dylan Dabolt (Attica, NY/Attica) and Cummings also picked up wins for UB. Dabolt earned a 7-2 decision victory at 125 pounds and Cummings won his bout 6-5 at 165 pounds.

Against Clarion, UB fell behind early and could not complete a late comeback. The Golden Eagles took each of the first four matches, all by decision, to take an early 12-0 lead. Cummings reversed the trend at 157 pounds, scoring a 4-3 decision over Travis Uncapher. Rendos followed with a 7-4 victory over David Cox at 165 pounds to cut Clarion's lead in half, 12-6. The Golden Eagles scored a victory at 174 pounds when Mario Morelli defeated Ragusa 6-2, pushing the Clarion advantage back to nine points. Moran scored a victory for Buffalo at 184 pounds with a 6-1 decision over Scott Joseph to keep Buffalo's chances of a comeback alive, but Jamie Luckett's win for Clarion at 197 pounds guaranteed a dual meet win for the Golden Eagles. Parker finished the dual on a positive note for UB, as he defeated Roman Husam by an 11-5 decision.

UB returns to Alumni Arena on Saturday, January 5 when they host Cleveland State, Mercyhurst and West Liberty State. Wrestling will begin at 11:00 a.m.
