UB's Schaus Gets MAC Honor

BUFFALO, NY- UB senior Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) was named the Mid-American Conference wrestler of the week today by the MAC office.

Schaus took first place in the 174-pound weight class at the New York State Collegiate Championships last weekend, finishing the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Three of his four wins were by fall and he defeated Dan Perry of Oneonta State in the championship match with a 2-0 decision. That championship was the second New York State Championship for Schaus who previoulsy won a state championship in high school.

He was the Bulls only wrestler to place at the Las Vegas Invitational, taking sixth place in that tournament.

Schaus, a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh, is in his senior season at UB and currently leads the team in overall falls on the year with five. He is ranked as the top wrestler in the MAC at 174 pounds and ranked 18th nationally at 174 pounds by Intermat.

Schaus and the Bulls will be in action this weekend when they host MAC foe Kent this Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 am in Alumni Arena. UB will then face Syracuse University on Saturday at 3 pm. The Bulls will then travel to face Miami University and Eastern Illinois University in Oxford, OH, on Sunday, Jan. 31.
