UB Wrestling Drops Two Dual Meets

BUFFALO, NY- The UB wrestling team opened their home season with two losses, including a loss in their first ever Mid-American Conference match.

In the morning meet, the Bulls fell to Ohio University 20-12. Jacob Schaus (Falconer, NY/Falconer) was a 5-0 winner for UB at 174 pounds. John Eschenfelder (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-Syracuse) came away with an exciting win in the heavyweight division, using a takedown in overtime for the win. Brian Schaal (Attica, NY/Alexander) was the other UB winner at 125 pounds.

In the afternoon match, the Bulls fell to Edinboro University, currently ranked in the top 25 nationally, losing 20-12. Brian Schaal got his second win on the day with an 8-4 decision at 125 pounds. Bill Jacoutot (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was a 10-7 for UB at 141 pounds. The Bulls also got two decisions at 184 pounds from Matt Ricci (E. Rochester, NY/E. Rochester), a 7-2 winner, and from Josh States (Lockport, NY/Lockport), a 3-1 winner at 197 pounds.

In between those two meets, Edinboro University beat Ohio 33-6 in a non-conference match up.

The Bulls (0-3) will next be in action at the New York State Collegiate Championships next weekend at Binghampton, NY. Their next home meet will be on Saturday, January 30, against Kent State University at 11 a.m. and Syracuse University at 3 p.m.
