McVige and Caros Place in Las Vegas Invitational

The Bulls finished 22nd out of 41 teams at the 16th Annual Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, NV. Senior 142-pounder Jeromy McVige (Albion, NY/Albion) upset fifth-ranked Jeff Bucher of Ohio State in the consolation semifinals enroute to a fourth-place finish. Freshman 126-pounder Chad Caros (Franklinville, NY/Suffern) upset the number four seed Brandon Howe of Michigan in the consolations to finish eighth.

The Bulls' 22nd -place finish was impressive considering that 13 of the nation's 25 ranked teams competed in this tournament, such as top-ranked Oklahoma State, fourth-ranked Michigan, fifth-ranked Nebraska, sixth-ranked Arizona State, ninth-ranked Iowa State and 10th-ranked Edinboro. Schools UB finished ahead of included 32nd-ranked Indiana and 26th-ranked Purdue of the Big Ten, and 39th-ranked Stanford of the PAC-10. UB is ranked 40th in the country according to the Amateur Wrestling News.

UB opens its dual meet season this Friday (12/12) when they host Central Michigan and Georgia State at Alumni Arena starting at 5:00 pm.
