UB's Eschenfelder Honored By MAC

BUFFALO, NY- UB wrestler John Eschenfelder (N. Syracuse, NY/Cicero) was named co-wrestler of the week by the Mid-American Conference Tuesday, along with Steve Daugherty of Kent.

Eschenfelder went 3-0 this past week, winning twice by pins. Last Wednesday, he defeated Pat Herriman of conference foe Western Michigan to improve to 4-0 in MAC competition. He then recorded a second straight pin against Seton Hall, recording the fall in 24-seconds. His third win as a 15-2 decision against Bucknell.

On the season, Eschenfelder has an overall record of 20-7 and 8-2 in dual meets. One of those dual meet losses was a one-point decision in overtime to the third ranked heavyweight in the nation. Eschenfelder is currently ranked first in the MAC in the heavyweight division with a 4-0 league record and has recorded a team best seven pins this season.

Earlier this year, Eschenfelder place third at the New York State Collegiate Championships. He finished that tournament with a 5-1 record, including all five wins by fall. He also has 10 wins in his last 11 matches on the mat.

Eschenfelder and the Bulls will take part in their final home meet of the season this evening, Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 pm, against Slippery Rock University in Alumni Arena.
