Bulls Split with American, Pitt-Johnstown

BUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo wrestling team split a pair of dual meets on Saturday (1/10) afternoon in Alumni Arena, defeating the American University Eagles 32-10 while losing 23-12 to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats. In other action, Pitt-Johnstown beat American 31-6.

In the first match, the Bulls captured five of the first seven individual bouts as they cruised to a 32-10 victory over American. Junior 118-pounder Brian Schaal (Attica, NY/Alexander) scored a win by technical fall while freshman 158-pounder Vince DeAugustine (Jeanette, PA/Hempfield) pinned his opponent at 4:46 of his match to lead UB. The Bulls have now won all three meetings between the two schools.

The second match saw the Mountain Cats jump out to a quick 13-0 lead behind wins at 118, 126 and 134 pounds, and and holding on for the win. For UB, senior 142-pounder Jeromy McVige (Albion, NY/Albion) earned his second win of the day, as did senior 150-pounder John Stutzman (Bear, DE/William Penn). Pitt-Johnstown leads the all-time seris between the two teams 2-0-1.

The Bulls will be in action again on Saturday (1/17) when they travel to Edinboro, PA to face the 14th-ranked Fighting Scots, as well as future Mid-American Conference (MAC) foe Ohio University.
