Women's Volleyball Weekly ReportCurrent record - 6-7 (0-2 Mid-American Conference)Player of the Week Sophomore outside hitter Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) recorded 22 kills and 27 digs in two Mid-American Conference matches this past weekend. Shiels tallied 11 kills and 16 kills in a five-game loss to Eastern Michigan on Tuesday (9/21) and 11 kills and 11 digs in a three-game loss at Marshall on Friday night (9/25). On average, Shiels recorded 2.75 kills per game and 3.37 digs per game in the two matches. Bulls Return to Alumni Arena This Week The Bulls will host two home conference matches this weekend against Northern Illinois on Friday (10/1) at 7:00 pm and on Saturday against Western Michigan (10/2) at 3:00 pm. The Bulls are 0-2 against Northern Illinois and are 0-1 against Western Michigan in the all-time series. Shiels, Meade Double Threat for Bulls Keri Shiels and senior outside hitter Rebecca Meade (Selden, NY/Selden) have been a consistent force this season for the Bulls. Shiels leads the team in kills with a 3.53 per game average while Meade is close behind at 3.43 per game. Meade leads the Bulls in digs at 3.57 per game. Shiels has played in a team-high 49 games this season while Meade is scond in games played appearing in 47. Bulls Lose Heartbreaker in Mac Opener The Bulls opened Mid-American Conference action this past Tuesday in Alumni Arena with a heart-breaking loss to Eastern Michigan in five games, 15-6, 15-12, 5-15, 8-15, 9-15. UB captured the first two games under the strong play of Rebecca Meade and Keri Shiels who combined for 12 kills but the Eagles, however, would not go down easily as they rallied back to claim the next three games, including the deciduous game five. Senior setter Somer Deschambault (Midland, Ontario/St. Theresa's) had an impressive performance for the Bulls as she surpassed her career digs record of 28, recording 29 in the match. Deschambault also delivered 40 assists in the game. Meade and Shiels were Buffalo's leaders in the attack game as they finsihed with 16 kills and 11 kills, respectively. Meade also recorded 19 digs in the match. Herd Hard to Handle The Bulls dropped its first conference road match of 1999 at Marshall Friday night (9/25) in three games, 9-15, 6-15, 12-15. Keri Shiels posted a match-high 11 kills for the Bulls, completing a double-double with 11 digs. Rebecca Meade and Heather Barfuss each tallied five kills, while Somer Deschambault had 14 assists. Deschambault Closing in on Assist Record Somer Deschambault needs 686 assists to become UB's All-Time assists leader. Deschambault currently has 3,162 assists compared to UB's all-time leader Barb Tinus ('87) who has 3,848. As a sidenote, Deschambault had 1,085 assists in 1998. Deschambault All-Time Career Records:
