Bulls End Season With Loss to Miami

Junior Lindsay Matikosh etches name in single-season record books for kills and digs

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended the 2002 season with a 3-1 loss to the visiting Miami RedHawks tonight in Alumni Arena, 30-20, 25-30, 30-24, 30-16. The loss ends the Bulls' season at 9-23 overall and 1-17 in the Mid-American Conference.

Junior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and sophomore Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) each recorded 11 kills to lead the Bulls' attack, and Matikosh also added a match-high 15 digs while Schrantz finished with 27 assists. Senior Rebecca Ashare (Coram, NY/Longwood), junior Alexis Bouie (Albion, NY/Albion) and junior Emily Dills (East Bethany, NY/Pavilion/San Francisco) each posted nine kills apiece, and Bouie added a match-high seven blocks, including two solos. Sophomore Kathryn Henry (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) finished with nine digs for the Bulls.

Matikosh ended the season with team highs of 441 kills (third all-time in UB history for a single season) and 450 digs (fourth all-time for a single season). Henry finished just out of the top 10 in digs on UB's single season chart with 388 on the year (11th all-time). Freshman setter Amy Brown's (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) 948 assists on the year rank 10th all-time in UB history.
