Volleyball Drops Regular Season Finale at Ohio

Bulls to face Northern Illinois in first round of MAC Tournament

ATHENS, OH - The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended the 2003 regular season with an 11-19 overall record and a 5-11 Mid-American Conference mark following a 3-0 loss at Ohio in the regular season finale tonight in Athens, OH. Game scores were 30-19, 30-22 and 30-16.

The Bulls were led by senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) with 12 kills and 14 digs, while freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) added eight kills and seven digs. Ohio (25-4 overall, 15-1 MAC), the MAC's regular season champion, was led by Laura Hageman with 14 kills and seven blocks and Lindsay Judice with 13 kills.

Buffalo is the number 11 seed in the MAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, November 18 with first-round matches at campus sites. The Bulls will travel to Northern Illinois to face the sixth-seeded Huskies (19-10 overall, 8-8 MAC) at 8 pm Eastern time. In their only meeting during the regular season, the Bulls came from behind to earn a 3-2 win at Northern Illinois on November 1 (24-30, 18-30, 30-25, 30-28, 15-12). The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 3 Akron (16-12 overall, 11-5 MAC), which received a first-round bye. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final match of the 2003 MAC Tournament will be hosted by Ball State in Muncie, IN on Friday, November 21, Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23.
