MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended its season on Tuesday night with a five-game loss to Ball State at the Worthen Arena in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Bulls end their season with a 14-20 record, finishing with their most wins since joining the MAC in 1998.

Ball State finally emerged victorious, 26-30, 30-27, 30-28, 25-30, 15-9, even though two UB players recorded over 20 kills on the evening. Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) finished her final career match with a match-high 22 kills, two off her career best. Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) reached a career high with 21 kills as she hit .395 on the evening. Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) also notched a career high with a match-best 61 assists and five total blocks, including three solos.

Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) led five UB players with double-digit digs, becoming UB’s all-time single-season digs leader as she surpassed the old record of 522, by recording 30 digs to set the new record at 545 digs on the season. Freshman Lauren Fensten (Centennial, CO/Smoky Hill) finished with 18 digs on the night, while Clark and Mapé each completed double-doubles with identical 14-dig performances. Senior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) also finished in double figures in kills and digs with 11 and 10, respectively.

Sophomore Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) led all players with a .600 hitting efficiency, recording nine kills on 15 swings, with no errors. The Bulls also welcomed back freshman Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) who missed the last 15 matches with a knee injury. It was her first action since Sept. 23. In her return, the freshman middle blocker had eight kills, three digs and two total blocks.

Ball State, who moves on to face Bowling Green in the MAC Quarterfinals on Friday, was led by 19 kills from Brittany May and Julie Breivogel, while Amanda McCormick had 29 digs and Angie Parrell directed the Cardinal offense with 55 assists.

The Bulls lose three seniors this year, but welcome back 12 players for the 2007 season.
