The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 loss to visiting Western Michigan Saturday night in Alumni Arena, 30-26, 30-27, 30-22. The Bulls put up a fight against one of the Mid-American Conference's top teams, but the Broncos' balanced attack and tough defense helped them to the three-game shutout. The Bulls were led by junior Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) with 11 kills and eight digs and sophomore Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) with nine kills and eight digs. Streib's nine kills tied her career high. Senior Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) had a match-high four blocks, including two solos. Junior Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) had three blocks, two of them solos, and senior Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) finished with 30 assists. Sophomore Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high 19 digs.
Bulls Drop 3-1 Match to Huskies
Prior to Saturday's match against Western Michigan, the Bulls dropped a 3-1 match to the visiting Northern Illinois Huskies Friday night in Alumni Arena, 30-18, 30-18, 28-30, 30-20. Weekley led Buffalo with 18 kills on a .394 hitting percentage while also adding four blocks. Morzenti posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, and Streib added seven kills and 14 digs, just one shy of her career high. Brown finished with 45 assists, nine digs and two blocks, both solo, and Garcia recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Getting Closer
The 1,000 mark is getting closer for three Bulls as the 2005 season winds down. Weekley currently stands at 992 career kills. She could become just the eighth player in UB volleyball history to reach the 1,000 mark for career kills and the first ever to record 1,000 kills and 500 blocks (564) in a career. Brown currently has 986 career digs. Only nine players in UB volleyball history have reached the 1,000 mark for career digs. Morzenti is also inching closer to the 1,000 mark for career kills with 980 entering the postseason.
Weekley Earns Academic Kudos
Weekley was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team last week, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team is made up of 12 players from Division I programs from New England, New York and Pennsylvania. Weekley, a psychology major with a 3.83 grade point average, has been a UB Scholar Athlete and she was an Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection last season. She currently leads the team in blocks per game (1.40) and ranks third in kills per game (2.80).
MAC Tournament Begins Tuesday
The 2005 Mid-American Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday,
November 15 with first-round matches at campus sites. The Bulls are the
tournament's 11th seed, and they will play a first-round tournament game at sixth-seeded

which will be held at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, OH on Friday, November 18.
