Bulls Shut Out Marshall, 3-0

Lindsay Matikosh leads Buffalo with 13 kills and 13 digs

HUNTINGTON, WV - The University at Buffalo volleyball team swept the Marshall Thundering Herd on the road tonight, earning a 30-27, 35-33, 30-24 win in Huntington, WV. The win ups the Bulls' record to 11-18 overall and 5-10 in the Mid-American Conference. It also snapped a two-match losing streak for the Bulls and gave them their most MAC wins in one season since joining the conference in 1998. Marshall had swept the Bulls earlier in the season, 30-27, 30-25, 30-25 on October 24 in Buffalo.

Senior Lindsay Matikosh (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) led the Bulls with 13 kills and 13 digs, and junior Molly Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) also posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Lauren Burd (York, PA/Central York) recorded a career-high nine kills while also adding five blocks, and sophomore Katie Weekley (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) also recorded nine kills to go along with a match-high six blocks. Freshman Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) contributed eight kills, 14 digs and five blocks, and sophomore setter Amy Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) added 40 assists, 10 digs and three blocks.

Marshall (17-15 overall, 7-8 MAC) was led by Amber Sims with 10 kills and Tracey King with five kills and 14 digs.

The Bulls will conclude the 2003 regular season tomorrow night with a 7 pm match at Ohio, the MAC's regular season champion. Following the match, the Bulls will find out their opponent for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, November 18.
