Bulls Drop Two To End Regular Season

The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended its regular season with a pair of losses this past weekend. The Bulls dropped identical 3-0 decisions to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. For the second straight season UB finished with a 3-13 conference mark. The Bulls 14 overall wins in 2006 are their most since joining the Mid-American Conference.

Digging Deep

Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is just seven digs short of tying the school record for digs in a season. Garcia is just the third player to reach 500 digs in a single season and her 1,416 career digs put her second on UB’s all-time dig list. Garcia still has a full year left to reach the school’s all-time digs record of 1,525.

UB In The MAC Rankings

The Bulls can be found in several of the MAC leader categories. As a team, UB is second in the MAC in service aces, registering 1.86 per game. Central Michigan leads the conference at 1.89 service aces per game. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) sits at ninth in hitting percentage at .282. Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) is eighth in service aces at 0.36 per game. Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) and Fitchette remain amongst the blocking leaders as Lueders is second at 1.32 per game and Fitchette is ninth at 1.06. Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) is currently ninth in the league in digs at 4.60 per game. She is also ninth in league matches only at 4.75 digs per game.

The Bulls open the 2006 MAC Tournament as the 11 seed and travel to sixth-seeded Ball State on Tuesday night. The Bulls face the Cardinals for the second time this season as Ball State beat UB 3-0 at Alumni Arena earlier this year. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
