Bulls Drop Third Straight

Volleyball Team Falls to Kent in Four Games

BUFFALO, NY - The UB volleyball team dropped their third straight match, losing in four games, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9, 15-12 to the visiting Kent Golden Flashes.

In the first game, Kent jumped out to a quick 14-6 lead before the Bulls came back. UB scored seven straight points. Kent held on and closed out the first game 15-13. The pivotal second game went back and forth between the two teams. Tied at 11-11, Kent scored two straight to go up 13-11 before the Bulls rallied and won the second game 15-13.

The Golden Flashes would use a big run in game three to give them the edge in the match. Tied at 1-1, Kent scored eight straight points to go up 9-1 and eventually led 13-3. UB tried to fight back, closing it to 13-9 before Kent took the game and control of the match.

The Bulls had a chance to force a fifth game but let it slip away. UB led 4-0 and 7-3 in the fourth game before the Golden Flashes came back to seal the victory. Kent used 5-0 to make it an 8-7 game and then trailing 11-8, Kent used a 6-0 run to make it 14-11 before closing out the fourth game 15-12.

The Bulls were led by Rebecca Meade (Selden, NY/Newfield) who had 22 kills and 27 digs. Keri Shiels (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) added 18 kills and 20 digs and Somer Deschambault (Midland, Ontario/St. Theresa's) had 60 assists and 32 digs. Kent was led by Carrie Patterson with 19 kills and 32 digs and Carrie McEnery with 18 kills and 22 digs.

The Golden Flashes improved to 11-15 overall and 8-7 in conference play while UB fell to 11-16 overall and 4-11 in the MAC. UB will host Miami on Saturday at 3 p.m.
