Bulls Fall At Akron, 3-0

Kristin Bignell has a match-high 13 kills

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team concluded its road schedule on Thursday night as the Bulls fell to Akron, 3-0, at Rhodes Arena. The loss drops UB to 15-14 on the season and 5-10 in the conference as they prepare for their final regular season match on Saturday.

The Zips took the contest 29-27, 25-16, 25-21 as they hit .287 on the night, opposed to .169 for UB. Both teams fought for the first set victory, but after numerous ties Akron took the set at 29-27 and took the momentum that came with it as they won in straight sets.

The Bulls were led by junior Kristin Bignell who had a match-high 13 kills on the night. Junior Lindsey Schlegel added six kills and no errors, while she also added 32 assists and five digs. Senior Maria Mezzadri had five kills and just one error, while freshman Tori Beckman had a match-high 20 digs and two service aces for UB.

Akron had four players in double figures in kills, led by 11 kills from Brionna Patterson. Kara Smith had 43 assists, while Chelsea Harvey added 19 digs.

The Bulls conclude the regular season on Saturday night as they host Toledo at Alumni Arena. The match is set for 6:00 pm.
