Bulls End Regular Season With Loss To Huskies
The Huskies, who will enter the Mid-American Conference as the number two seed and receive a first round bye, defeated UB, 30-23, 30-22, 30-21, and outhit the Bulls .270 to .160 in the contest. UB’s two senior outside hitters, who were playing their final regular season game, paced the offense as they each recorded double-digit kills on the night. Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor, FL/Clearwater) finished with a team-high 11 kills and Jenna Mapé (Calgary, Alberta/Father Lacombe) added 10. Sophomore Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown/Genesee CC) added six kills, but she made the most damage at the front of the next, recording four total blocks, including two solos.
Junior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) led UB with 10 digs on the evening and three service aces. Senior Brandie Clark (Medicine Hat, Alberta/Medicine Hat) had 32 assists for UB to go along with eight digs and five block assists. Colleen Egan (Abingdon, MD/John Carroll/Temple) finished as UB’s most efficient hitter as she had four kills on seven swings with no errors. Egan also totaled three block assists. NIU (20-8, 13-3 MAC) was led by 16 kills from Kate McCullagh and a solid all-around game from Mandi Caputo who had 44 assists and seven service aces. The Bulls will now begin the 2006 MAC Tournament as the 11 seed. They will travel to sixth-seeded Ball State on Tuesday for the first round of the conference tournament with the winner continuing on to Toledo for the final three rounds of the tournament. The time of the match is still to be decided. |
