Bulls Complete Regular Season Against Miami (OH)

Lindsey Schlegel records a career-high 51 assists

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team completed its 2007 regular season on Saturday night as the Bulls dropped a tight 3-1 contest to the Miami (OH) RedHawks at Alumni Arena. The Bulls played one of their most complete matches of the seasons, hitting .318 in game one.

The RedHawks took the match, 28-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-16 as they hit .247 for the match, compared to .201 for UB. Junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) had a match-high 16 kills and seven digs with four blocks assists on the evening. Freshman Richelle Bigelow (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) had 15 kills and 15 digs for the double-double and added six assists, while freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) nearly missed a triple-double with eight kills, nine digs and a career-high 51 assists. UB’s two middle blockers also had a strong evening as Kristin Bignell (Drayton, Ontario/Norwell District) had 12 kills and four block assists, while sophomore Kelsey Lueders (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) had nine kills and four blocks, including one solo. Sophomore Maria Mezzadri (Livonia, MI/Livonia Stevenson) added seven kills and four digs.

The Bulls also received a strong effort from their two senior, who played in their final match at Alumni Arena. Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) had six digs and an assist, while Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a match-high 17 digs and now has 1,877 digs for her career.

The Bulls hit .318 in the first game and a .306 in game three as they recorded 23 kills and just eight errors on 49 total attacks.

Miami (OH) was led by 13 kills from Emily Schroeder and 23 assists from Andrea Atteberry, while Maria Leahy had 16 digs.

The Bulls now begin the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament on the road this Tuesday evening. The Bulls will play at Kent State with the time of the match still to be determined.
