Bulls Fall To Bowling Green, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team put forth a gritty effort against one of the top teams in the MAC East on Friday night, but the Bulls fell to Bowling Green, 3-0, at Alumni Arena. UB had its best game in game three, but came up just short.

Bowling Green took the match 30-18, 30-19, 33-31 as the Falcons outhit the Bulls .370 to .073. UB was led by eight kills from junior Claudia Neba (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill/Rutgers) and eight kills from sophomore Maria Mezzadri (Livonia, MI/Livonia Stevenson). Neba also added nine digs, two service aces and two block assists. Freshman Richelle Bigelow (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge) had seven kills and five digs, while adding three assists and a service ace. Freshman Lindsey Schlegel (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) chipped in 29 assists and four kills, while adding six digs. Senior Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) had a team-high 12 digs and her four service aces were tied for tops in the match.

The Bulls had 10 service aces in all as senior Sarah Streib (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) recorded two off the bench, while Lauren Fensten (Centennial, CO/Smoky Hill) added a service ace late in the third game off the bench.

Bowling Green was led by 15 kills from Kendra Halm and 10 kills from Stephanie Swiger. Sam Fish had 25 assists, while Chelsey Meek added 13 digs.

The Bulls will wrap up the regular season tomorrow night as they host Miami (OH) at 7:00 pm in Alumni Arena. UB’s two seniors, Garcia and Streib, will be honored before the match.
